Gilbert
was developed using Java and the SUN Microsystems Java Secure Sockets
Extension (JSSE), Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) and of course
the Java Development Kit (JDK 1.3). The purpose of Gilbert is to:
1) Provide an overview of how web based financial transactions are
secured through use of Public Key Cryptography (PKI), and explain
the various standards involved.
2) Allow an individual or company to assess the performance and security
of any E-commerce web application which is based upon the Secure Sockets
Layer (SSL) or Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocols.
3)
Illustrate how the SSL/TLS protocols work by providing demonstrations
and allowing configuration of protocol attributes.
4) Provide hands on experience of producing SSL/TLS based servers/clients
and the SUN extensions by providing the Gilbert class and API files.
